    TUPELO - Bentley Nolan has defeated Steven Coon to claim in Tuesday night's runoff election to earn the Republican nomination to represent Ward 5 on the Tupelo City Council. According to unofficial reports from the city, Nolan received 243 votes, which or 60% of the total votes cast in the sparse election. Coon received 162 votes, or 40%, mirroring the percentages from the April 1 primary that included a third candidate.

    TUPELO - Residents of a new West Tupelo neighborhood are attempting to persuade city officials to halt construction of a convenience store. The new neighborhood, Clubside Subdivision, was developed by Tommy Morgan and lies near the Tupelo Country Club and behind Brooks Grocery on Purnell Road. Residents of the neighborhood appeared before Tupelo City Council on Tuesday to ask members of the council to do what they can to stop a planned gas station from opening near the area.
