Illinois, hosting a NCAA Regional for the first time, had a historic day in Monday’s opening round. Senior Jackson Buchanan recorded a course-record round of 63 (-8) as Illinois posted the best team score on day one (-7). Only three other teams finished under-par of the 13 teams competing. The top five will advance to the NCAA Championship later this month.

First Birmingham, now Chicago. The date was officially set Thursday for Illinois’ “home” matchup with Alabama in the 2025-26 season. It will be Wednesday, Nov. 19 at the United Center. It’s the return matchup after the Illini played in Birmingham last season, when the Crimson Tide won 100-87. According to the program, it will be Illinois’ first non-conference regular season game at the UC since the 2017-18 season.

@BlakeFagbemi Brad Underwood doesn’t have to get ALL of his players from the Balkans. Illinois received a commitment Wednesday night from Benet Academy point guard Blake Fagbemi. He announced his decision on X. It’s unclear currently if Fagbemi is a walk-on or will hold a scholarship spot in 2025.

Another European prospect officially signed with Illinois this week, as David Mirkovic put pen to paper and joined the Illini. The Montenegrin forward committed to Illinois last month. Illinois is hosting a NCAA Regional at Atkins Golf Club from May 12-14 as the Illini fight for a spot in the NCAA Championship. No. 14 Illinois will host 13 programs and 10 individuals, according to a news release. That includes No. 2 Oklahoma State and No. 10 UNC. The five best teams will advance to the championship in Carlsbad, California May 23-28.
