The Mainichi Shimbun, which translates to "Daily News," is one of Japan's leading newspapers, produced by The Mainichi Newspapers Co., Ltd. Alongside its twice-daily printed editions that cater to various regions, the Mainichi also runs an English-language news site known as The Mainichi (formerly Mainichi Daily News). Additionally, it releases a bilingual news magazine called Mainichi Weekly. The company also publishes various other materials, including paperbacks, books, and magazines, such as the weekly news publication, Sunday Mainichi.

    The Israeli military says it "continues to attack" inside the Gaza Strip as a dispute with Hamas delayed the start of a planned ceasefire. Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the military's chief spokesman, said the truce would not begin until Hamas hands over the names of three hostages to be released later on Sunday, echoing an earlier statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
