VH1

VH1 (often written as Vl+1, and previously known as Video Hits One) is a cable TV network based in New York City. It is owned by the Viacom Music and Entertainment Group, which is part of the Viacom Media Networks. VH1 was launched on January 1, 1985, taking over the former space of Turner Broadcasting System's short-lived Cable Music Channel. The channel was created to complement MTV by showcasing music videos, but it aimed its content at an older audience, emphasizing the more mellow and softer aspects of popular music.
