WHUR-FM, broadcasting at 96.3 FM, is a radio station focused on urban adult contemporary music. It is licensed in Washington D.C. and caters to the Metro D.C. region. Owned and run by Howard University, it stands out as one of the few commercial radio stations in the U.S. that is managed by a college or university. Additionally, it is the only independent, locally-owned radio station in Washington, D.C. The station’s staff also provides guidance and mentorship to students from the university's school of communications. Its studios are situated on the university's campus in the Lower Quad area, while the transmitter tower is located in Tenleytown. WHUR-FM is co-owned with WHUT-TV, which is one of the PBS affiliates in D.C.
