In 2024, longtime wood flooring pro Stephen Diggins took a “gap year” after working decades as a distributor. He usedthat time off to reconnect with many of the friends he had made in the industry over the years, and at the top of thatlist was lifelong friend Dave Hoyt. Diggins and Hoyt met in the early 2000s when Hoyt was one of Diggins’ customers,and Hoyt has since opened his own distribution company, South Hampton, N.H.-based Seacoast Floor Supply.

When Jeremy Partridge, owner of Brookfield,Mass.-based Jerokee Flooring, set out to createa game room for his kids, he went beyond addingthe typical board games and arcade machines—heturned the whole floor into a game. Partridge hasbeen keeping a notebook with fun wood flooringdesigns for years, so constructing a game room wasthe perfect opportunity to execute a Pac-Man mazedesign from his notebook. The wooden Pac-Man maze is 289 square feetand made of maple and American cherry.

When Chuck Crispin designed and installed the beautiful parquet wood flooring in the Swope Art Museum in his hometown of Terre Haute, Ind., in 1998, he didn’t anticipate the flooring wouldn’t be recoated for more than 20 years, but that’s how it turned out, and when he returned to care for the floors, “a lot of dirt was walked into the grain,” he says.
