The Bellefontaine Police Department has added a new K9 to its ranks recently. Charlee, a three-year-old female Bernedoodle, is the department’s second therapy dog and will work with Officer Doug Walters during the school year at Bellefontaine High School. She is owned by Officer Walters, who has worked closely with her to complete her training and certification. Charlee first completed the AKC Canine Good Citizen obedience training at Dependable Companions in East Liberty.

Bellefontaine High School senior Ryan Alexander was awarded a prestigious scholarship on Tuesday. Alexander is this year’s Bruce E. Higham Scholarship recipient at BHS. Ryan will be attending The Ohio State University in the fall, majoring in welding engineering. His parents are Nate & Emily Alexander and Galen & Abby Miller. Bruce E. Higham was a 1938 graduate of Bellefontaine High School and a 1943 graduate of The Ohio State University, where he earned a degree in engineering.

Wednesday was a busy night for high school softball across Logan County, with standout performances leading to wins for Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake, while West Liberty-Salem came up short against Madison Plains. The Lady Raiders powered past Graham with a commanding 11-2 win, highlighted by a dominant outing from pitcher Chloe Crumm. Crumm struck out 10 batters over seven innings, allowing just three hits and two runs while walking four.

Wednesday was a busy day on the baseball diamond for local high school teams. Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake both earned wins, while Bellefontaine struggled against a strong Kenton Ridge squad. The Benjamin Logan Raiders came out on top against Graham with a 4-1 victory. Benjamin Logan opened the scoring in the second inning when Adam Tinsman singled to drive in a run. Tinsman delivered both on the mound and at the plate.
