Trending today: a Wisconsin man who’s spent the last 18 years deliberately getting bit by snakes – to develop immunity, Princess Bride-style. (He’s very graciously allowing scientists to study him – which leads Aaron to suspect he might just be doing it for the free checkups. Wouldn’t be the weirdest thing people have done for cheap healthcare, right?)Want to know what folks are talking about on social media?

In today’s news: an extreme heat warning continues in the Triangle, with temperatures near 100 and a heat index around 110. Also: the Chapel Hill Town Council considers a proposed six-story apartment building on Elliott Road; construction gets underway on a condo development in Carrboro; the State Board of Elections reaches a compromise in a lawsuit with the U.S. Justice Department; a three-judge panel gives a partial (but not total) victory to Gov.

Trending today: a trend in high-level chess toward imposing a 10-minute time limit on moves. Will that make chess TV-friendly? Aaron and Victor start brainstorming ideas – which immediately pivots into circus sideshow territory. (Also, Aaron complains about board games.)Want to know what folks are talking about on social media?

Update: finally managed to escape the @CityofDurhamNC parking deck after someone forced the gate open manually. Lucky there wasn't a medical emergency, huh?

Shoutout to the @CityofDurhamNC that has trapped us in the Chapel Hill St parking deck and is not letting us leave. "Yes, we've gotten a call about that. No, we don't provide ETAs for when it will be fixed. Today? I mean, I assume so."

Hey @TheDurhamPolice - I know you're only allowed to see 300 tweets a day, but you should know that the Chapel Hill St parking deck is not letting anyone leave and there's a huge backup of trapped vehicles
