But, to all you newbies, former KOIN 6 sports anchor Ed Whelan was best known as the “Big Daddy of Sports” in Portland. “I’m just amazed that people would watch. And that they remember. PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — After a stellar career in Major League Baseball, Brian Bruney came back to where it all began on Wednesday– Warrenton High School. The 3A school along the mouth of the Columbia River retired his jersey in a pregame ceremony recently. Bruney graduated from Warrenton in 2000, and was named the 2A Player of the Year. Following his senior season, Bruney became a 12th-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland’s Josh Zakreski lit the lamp at the 4:10 mark of overtime, as the Portland Winterhawks evened up their series with Everett at 2 games apiece. What an incredible playoff game it was for Portland at their home Veterans Memorial Coliseum, despite Everett outshooting them 48 to 31. But behind a hat trick by co-captain Kyle Chyzowski, the Winterhawks were able to persevere and get the hard fought win over Everett, 6-5.
