WorkSafeBC says it recently handed out nearly $30,000-worth of fines to four Victoria companies, all for issues related to fall safety. The largest of the four fines, at $10,516.19, was issued to Mike Geric Construction Ltd., where they say a worker was at risk of falling roughly 45 metres (147 feet) or nearly 14 storeys, while working on a multi-storey residential building that’s under construction.

The new Holt Creek bridge, near Duncan, is opening Saturday, replacing a century-old wooden trestle that stood out to many for its character. Last year, the province said it was replacing the original wooden trestle, made in 1922, because of structural concerns. It said that replacing the bridge altogether would be cheaper than maintaining the century-old structure, much to the dismay of locals who used the popular bridge.

The storied Philippine Martin Mars water bomber that left its home on Vancouver Island last year is being reassembled at its new home at Pima Air and Space Museum in Tucson, Arizona. On June 5, Port Alberni-based Coulson Aviation posted a video of the roughly 80-year-old water bomber being reassembled at the U.S. museum. The historic plane had to be disassembled and hauled to the Arizona museum back in May, after flying more than 2,400 kilometres from Vancouver Island to Lake Pleasant, Arizona.

One person was flown to hospital following a single-vehicle crash in Parksville on Thursday afternoon. Oceanside RCMP says it was called to a report of a vehicle crashing into a tree around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of Hirst Avenue and Renz Road. BC Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) dispatched two ambulances to the scene, including one air ambulance and one ground ambulance. Video shows the air ambulance flying low above a neighbourhood as it arrives at the scene.
