    Drivers should be on the lookout for two parades that will result in road closures in downtown Victoria on Saturday morning. The Buccaneer Days Parade and the Victoria Tartan Parade are both taking place on Saturday, May 10. The Buccaneer Days Parade, a mainstay of the annual nautical-themed fair, will kick off at approximately 10 a.m. on Dominion Road, before continuing along Esquimalt Road and ending at Admirals Road about two hours later.

    The District of Saanich will soon begin asking residents if they approve of borrowing up to $150 million to build a new operations centre for the municipality. At a special council meeting Monday, council approved of launching an alternative approval process (AAP) at the end of the month asking residents for their permission to take out the hefty loan. Through an AAP, a proposal moves forward unless at least 10 per cent of electors oppose it.

    Two restaurants on Vancouver Island have been named among the top 50 in Canada for 2025, according to this year’s list by magazine Canada’s 100 Best. Pluvio, in Ucluelet, and Marilena Cafe & Raw Bar, in Victoria, both made the cut in the 36th and 39th place, respectively. Tucked away at 1714 Peninsula Rd. in Ucluelet, Pluvio highlights local flavours and ingredients in all of its dishes.

    The Vancouver Island Ferry Company (VIFC), which operates the Hullo ferry line between Nanaimo and Vancouver, is on the hunt for a new CEO after the current executive stepped down. On Thursday, VIFC announced current CEO Alastair Caddick was stepping down “effective immediately,” and being replaced by interim CEO Ryan Dermody, who previously served as a non-executive director on the company’s board.
