AUSTIN, Texas — To honor fallen Department of Public Safety State Trooper Kevin Ramirez Vasquez, both chambers of the Texas Legislature approved for a memorial highway in his name, according to State Representative Brooks Landgraf (R-Odessa) on Friday. It now heads to Governor Greg Abbott's desk. The bill was sponsored by State Senator Kevin Sparks (R-Midland), to honor the life of Trooper Vasquez, who lost his life on September 17, 2024, while investigating a crash scene.

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — An Ector County jury found a man guilty and sentenced him to 113 years in prison for child sexual abuse charges Friday, according to the Ector County District Attorney's Office. Weldon Needham, 40, was found guilty of one count of continuous sexual abuse of child. He was sentenced to 53 years without parole for the charge, the DA's office stated. Needham was also found guilty of three counts of sexual abuse of a child.  He was sentenced to 20 years for each count.
