Police have identified a motorcyclist who died after his vehicle crashed into the back of a car Sunday evening in southwest Lubbock. Willie Anderson, 43, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash that was reported about 9:20 p.m. Sunday in the 7700 block of Milwaukee Avenue, according to a statement from Lubbock police. Investigators believe Anderson was riding a motorcycle south on Milwaukee Avenue when the motorcycle struck the back of a passenger car.

The City of Lubbock recently announced that Sarah Weede will serve as the first Director of the West Texas State Veterans Cemetery, which is expected to be completed in fall 2025. Weede, a Lubbock native, is a U.S. Air Force veteran, most recently served as assistant director of Emergency Management at Texas Tech, and will begin in her new role starting Monday, May 12, according to a city of Lubbock news release.

SERVPRO of Southwest Lubbock presented a check for more than $90,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock following its 20th annual Golf for Kids' Sake Kickoff Concert and Tournament that wrapped up May 2. During a check presentation Monday morning, Joel Mowery, co-owner of title sponsor SERVPRO of Southwest Lubbock, said the money raised during the concert and tournament was the most in the event's history.
