    ATHENS — Havana softball suffered an extra-inning heartbreaker. The fifth-ranked Ducks lost 4-3 in 11 innings to No. 2 Carrollton in the Class 1A Athens Supersectional on Monday. This was Havana's farthest advancement in program history. In the top of the 11th, Havana (25-4-1) looked to be in control after going up 3-2 thanks to Maddie Howerter's sacrifice bunt that scored Kaydi Miller (2-for-4), who doubled to lead off the frame.

    GENESEO — A dozen years of waiting is over for Eureka. The Hornets won the Class 2A Geneseo Supersectional, beating Wilmington, 4-0, on Monday. Eureka (34-4) advances to the baseball state finals for a 4 p.m. Friday semifinal against Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin (24-8-1) at Illinois Field in Champaign. This marks Eureka's first state finals berth since a 2013 Class 2A state fourth-place finish. "The emotions got to me," Eureka coach Dane Wear said of his reaction following the final out.

    Illinois will play UConn in a rematch at Madison Square Garden on November 28th. The game is part of Illinois' fourth consecutive season playing at MSG. Illinois men's basketball will get a rematch, of sorts, with UConn. The Fighting Illini will play UConn on Nov. 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York, according to CBS Sports college basketball insider Jon Rothstein. UConn beat Illinois, 77-52 in the Elite Eight of the 2024 NCAA tournament. This is the fourth season in a row Illinois play at MSG.
