Two western Massachusetts candidates for Superior Court judgeships were confirmed Wednesday by the Governor’s Council Northampton Attorney Jeffrey Trapani and Westfield District Court Judge Charles Groce each received unanimous votes from the council. During the meeting at the State House, there was no debate among the members and both were swiftly approved. The pair was nominated in late April by Governor Maura Healey.

A Springfield man convicted of murder in 1985 has been granted a new trial on his sixth attempt. Edward Wright was found guilty in the killing of his friend Penny Anderson and has been incarcerated ever since. The murder occurred in 1984. But a Hampden Superior Court judge granted him a new trial last week citing evidence prosecutors allegedly kept from Wright and false testimony given by a detective during the trial.
UMass poll: 51% disapprove of Trump's presidency so far

A new UMass Amherst poll finds just more than half of respondents disapprove of President Donald Trump's performance in his first few months in office. Of those surveyed, 51% did not like the job the president is doing, while 44% were in favor. And responses to most topics followed party lines, with a vast majority of Democrats disagreeing with Trump. Alex Theodoridis is one of the pollsters and a political scientist at UMass Amherst.
