A large fire has destroyed Shell gas station at Bridal Falls Road in Popkum, near Chilliwack, on Saturday. Popkum firefighters were paged at about noon to respond to a motor home on fire. Chilliwack and Agassiz firefighters are on the scene as is the RCMP. BC Hydro and Fortis BC have also been paved. The motor home was fully involved and fire has spread to the station. Smoke can easily be seen from Agassiz. The adjacent Ranchers restaurant sustained damage. More to come.

It's set to be a proud day for the Seabird Island (Sq'éwqel) First Nation. Come June 11, eight students from Seabird Island will graduate from The University of the Fraser Valley's (UFV) Upriver Halq'emeylem Intermediate Proficiency Certificate program – the first of its kind in the country. Seabird Island Halq'emeylem instructor said the local students are frontline workers and community members who participated in the program to better integrate the language into their respective workplaces.
