ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A woman is in critical condition after a welfare check led to an officer-involved shooting in Wasilla Friday night, according to Alaska State Troopers. AST says a woman made multiple 911 calls from a residence in the Meadow Lakes area. When AST arrived on scene and made contact with the woman, she produced a BB gun and pointed it at the responding Trooper. The Trooper then shot the woman. The BB gun did not have an orange tip and closely resembled a semiautomatic gun.

Two missing and murdered indigenous people who can’t be found in any database, article, or social media platform, whose mysterious disappearance in the 1960s impacted a community. In February 2012, Aqpik’s 18-year-old cousin was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and murdered by serial killer Israel Keyes.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The fin whale that washed ashore near Anchorage’s coastal trail in November is making progress on its trip to permanent housing. According to the team collecting remains, an estimated 246 bones are expected to be collected. They currently have what they consider to be the main parts of the whale, including the full skull, a pectoral fin, and several vertebrae.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Tuesday is Earth Day, a great day to appreciate the world we live in. Alaska State Parks, partnering with Alaska Trails, is planning to show appreciation in the form of a cleanup at Thunderbird Falls. “Thunderbird Falls is in a world of hurt,” said Wendy Sailors, Community Engagement Manager with ASP, speaking of the amount of cleanup needed in the area. Specifically, dog waste and trash located on the trailhead and trail.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU)—Multiple people are displaced after a residential fire broke out in a three-story multi-plex building on Blackberry St., according to an AFD spokesperson. The fire was contained shortly before 11 p.m. AFD responded to the fire around 10 p.m. There are no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
