ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Mile 348 of the Parks Highway south of Ester closed Saturday in both directions due to a vehicle crash with injuries, according to Alaska State Troopers. The crash was reported to Alaska State Troopers at approximately 5:45 pm. It is a single-vehicle rollover with two occupants. Troopers say injuries are possibly life-threatening. Troopers say travelers should expect “significant” delays while emergency responders investigate and clear the scene.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A family home no longer stands in Eagle River following a “devastating” Saturday night fire, according to the Anchorage Fire Department. Saturday night, shortly after 10:13 p.m., volunteer firefighters at Chugiak Volunteer Fire and Rescue responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a garage fire on Savage Drive. According to an AFD social media post, the family did not know their home was on fire until loud cracks and pops were heard. The family was able to evacuate safely.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - One of the largest grants for the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP) was unexpectedly terminated, leaving it without the ability to move forward with its summer Acceleration Academy. ANSEP still plans to hold all of its other scheduled programs this summer. The grant was from the National Science Foundation for $2.5 million distributed over five years.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - A woman is in critical condition after a welfare check led to an officer-involved shooting in Wasilla Friday night, according to Alaska State Troopers. AST says a woman made multiple 911 calls from a residence in the Meadow Lakes area. When AST arrived on scene and made contact with the woman, she produced a BB gun and pointed it at the responding Trooper. The Trooper then shot the woman. The BB gun did not have an orange tip and closely resembled a semiautomatic gun.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Years ago, a tribal elder walked up to Dr. Charlene Aqpik and told her about cases that went undocumented. Two missing and murdered indigenous people who can’t be found in any database, article, or social media platform, whose mysterious disappearance in the 1960s impacted a community. In February 2012, Aqpik’s 18-year-old cousin was kidnapped, sexually assaulted, and murdered by serial killer Israel Keyes.
