BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man is lucky to be alive after he survived a cardiac arrest during a 30-mile bike race in Saranac two months ago. On April 18, 6-year-old David Bristol said his life flashed before his eyes. He was on mile 27 of his race when he ended up in a pile of leaves, passed out and not breathing. “I don’t remember much of the race, especially the second half of it,” Bristol said.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Demonstrators gathered outside of Grand Rapids City Hall on Tuesday night to protest immigration policies in the city and nationwide. The rally was organized by Movimiento Cosecha and Grand Rapids Rapid Response to ICE, called “No ICE in GR.”Ana Ramirez, an attendee, told News 8 that the rally is personal. “I am scared for my future, for the future of my daughter and my husband,” she said.

For the first time, the Comstock Township Department of Fire and Rescue released a hidden tribute story about Switalski. Switalski died in the line of duty in June of 2017, after he was hit by a truck while responding to a call on the highway.

ZEELAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Zeeland residents are still divided after Thursday’s public hearing regarding a local company’s $836 million plan to expand in the area. Mead Johnson is Zeeland’s third biggest taxpayer, with nearly 500 employees. The nutrition company has had a large impact on the city — but their potential growth could come at a major cost in the future. The plan proposes levelling several homes on the north side of East Main Street, along with rezoning land from residential to industrial.
