What started as a roadside fruit stand in Morgan Hill is now a bustling grocery store in Redwood City and Palo Alto. Sigona’s Farmers Market, a family-owned business specializing in locally grown, organic produce and everything from artisan cheeses, microbrews and wine to seasonal olive oils and balsamics is celebrating 50 years in business this year.

This week we’re shining a spotlight on oil. No, not your typical olive, canola, avocado or grapeseed oil: We’re talking about oil made from fermented sugar cane. A San Mateo-based company has been producing Zero Acre oil for the last five years. It’s a relatively neutral-tasting oil with a high smoke point that is more healthy and environmentally sustainable than conventional cooking oils, according to CEO and co-founder Jeff Nobbs.

The last four weeks have been “intense” for Maison Alyzée CEO Laurent Pellet, he said. On March 3, a fire broke out at his French patisserie and cafe in downtown Mountain View, causing extensive smoke damage. While no one was injured, the bakery remained closed as Pellet and his team restored furniture, repainted the walls and redid “the entire store from top to bottom,” Pellet said. Now, he plans to reopen Maison Alyzée Saturday, returning to normal operating hours.

I knew Jagalchi would be popular, but I didn’t expect that on a Tuesday at 2 p.m. there would be a 10-minute line to enter the giant new Korean food complex in Daly City. I had been to Jagalchi as part of a preview event, but I was back to meet up with Michael Kim, who was the chef at the former Michelin-starred restaurant Maum in Palo Alto. He’s opening his own Menlo Park restaurant Yeobo, Darling next month.

After 12 years, Steins Beer Garden, the founder of #MountainView Oktoberfest, is closing. Steins was my introduction to #craftbeer when I turned 21 three years ago. I've ordered many #beer flights and enjoyed many pints of Fruli strawberry beer. 💔 https://t.co/V5eV1CMvhw
