Free rides to and from the Longmont Farmers Market are available throughout April via RIDE Longmont, the city’s on-demand transportation service. Normally $2 per ride (or $1 for students, seniors, and riders with disabilities), the service is free this month for trips to and from the market in an effort to improve access to fresh, healthy, and local food for all Longmont residents. The Longmont Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through November 15, rain or shine.

Aspen-based chef Mawa McQueen — born in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire and raised partly in Paris — has been named a James Beard Award semifinalist for “Best Chef,” and her Aspen restaurant, Mawa’s Kitchen, was recommended by the MICHELIN Guide in both 2023 and 2024. Now, she’s opening a new spot in Boulder called Crepe Therapy Café, which will be located on 31st Street. McQueen hopes the café will grow into a community gathering place and that it will expand into a multi-location brand.

Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson announced on April 5 that this weekend’s polar plunge, which benefitted Special Olympics Colorado, raised $6,751.75 for the organization. Around 10 representatives of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office dunked into the Boulder Reservoir on Saturday as part of the fundraiser. Water temperatures were colder than 50-degrees Fahrenheit.

Boulder County’s outdoor emergency siren testing will begin today, April 7, as part of “flood season preparedness,” according to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO). Emergency siren testing occurs annually in Boulder County on the first Monday of the month from April through August. The tests will occur between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. The sirens are meant to alert people who are outside that there is a severe weather event or other emergency situation that could threaten their safety.
