Due to today's weather conditions, the Lake Charles Mardi Gras Lighted Boat Parade has been canceled.

An Army helicopter accident occurred in the JRTC and Fort Polk training area this morning. Emergency services immediately responded. Four crew members were on board; one has died and three injured. More details as they are available.

Cameron Parish School Board officials and Cameron Sheriff’s office are investigating a possible verbal threat by a student at Hackberry High. Extra deputies on scene to ensure student safety. KPLC has been told school is secure, students are safe, and there's no current threat

Due to the weather, Calcasieu Parish schools will be releasing Vinton Elementary, Vinton Middle, Vinton High, and Starks High at 11:30 today. School buses will be returning to campus to transport students, and all other students will be dismissed at that time.

Major traffic headache in I-10 over the Atchafalaya Basin. State Police report a multiple vehicle crash on I-10 westbound at Whiskey Bay. Both lanes of travel are currently closed and traffic is being diverted from I-10 to LA Hwy 415 to US Hwy 190. Please avoid if possible.

Due to a power issue with Entergy, Barbe High School students will be dismissed at 10 a.m. School buses will return to campus to transport students who ride a bus, and all other students will be dismissed at that time.
