Brian was part of the chapter's youth group. Inspired by the MLK Brunch in Port Arthur, Sam Bean and the chapter’s executive committee wanted to have an event of their own to honor the Civil Rights pioneer. In 1989, the organization held its first MLK Breakfast in Beaumont.
