Southeast Texas faces allergy season amid COVID and flu concerns

As the pollen dotting vehicles and porches in Southeast Texas would suggest, allergy season is in full swing. Christus Family Medicine Specialist Dr. William Pickard said despite this winter’s snow that could have delayed allergy season, it’s been warm enough for flowers and trees to bloom and release their pollen. As a result, he’s already starting to see patients coming into his office complaining of allergy-related issues.
Fatal crash closes I-10 eastbound in Beaumont

A multi-vehicle crash has shut down all lanes of Interstate 10 eastbound before Walden Road in Beaumont. Beaumont police spokesperson Haley Morrow said at least one fatality as a result of the crash has been reported. All I-10 eastbound, including the service roads, are shut down. Traffic is being diverted at Major Drive. This report will be updated.

With a third month dawning and 2025 in full swing, I wanted to take some time to give all of you a Beaumont Enterprise progress update. Since 2019, together we’ve been through a petrochemical plant explosion, a global pandemic and subsequent shutdown. We’ve cheered for state football victories, and we’ve cried together as those hopes have been dashed, among dozens of other happenings.

Gator Country’s staff has been preparing for this week’s frigid weather since they saw the possibility in the forecast. “It is tough. It’s harder than the hurricanes we go through,” co-owner Gary Saurage told The Enterprise on Monday afternoon. “These reptiles are cold-blooded animals. Multiple shelters across Southeast Texas have opened as frigid temperatures and snow are expected in the region. The Salvation Army's "Home Sweet Home" shelter, 1094 McFaddin Ave., will open at 5 p.m. daily to serve dinner and take in overnight guests. Henry's Place, 1107 McFaddin Ave., will be open during daytime hours for individuals who need a place to warm up.
Winter storm prompts Hardin County to issue disaster declaration

Hardin County is under a disaster declaration as of Monday morning as Southeast Texans make final preparations for the incoming winter storm. According to an email from Hardin County Judge Wayne McDaniel, he also has ordered the courthouse and all non-essential county services to cease Tuesday in advance of the weather. Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick also canceled all nonessential county operations for Tuesday.
