A VISUALLY striking funeral has taken place in Limerick city and Mitchelstown in a final farewell to a teenager, affectionately known as “Our Moe”. A golden casket carrying the remains of Mikeyboy O'Donoghue, 19, pictured below, was transported in a hearse through Limerick city on Thursday evening to the sounds of scores of beeping horns. A dramatic tribute unfolded on Gerald Griffin Street, where a group of men lifted the casket above their heads and banged its sides in a final salute.

On Saturday, May 17, Kilmallock stood proud. Under glorious sunshine, with flower beds in full bloom and green areas immaculately kept, the town welcomed the President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, for the 2025 National Famine Commemoration. It was an historic day which was weeks, months, even years in the making, thanks to the tireless efforts of local volunteers, community groups, public representatives, and the wider public.

Last Sunday, Limerick didn’t just host a hurling match - it staged a spectacle. A sea of 43,000 voices swelled along streets and green areas, into pubs and food queues, in a show of sporting fervour and community pride that got the heart pumping. As the sun beamed down, the air was thick with the scent of sizzling cooking oil, sweat, and sunscreen. Before a sliothar was even struck, the energy was unmistakable.
