    It is probably no surprise that I became involved in newspapers - my grandmother was a book binder with Thoms; my grandfather was a printer with Brunswick Press and my father was a printer with Brown and Nolan and then The Irish Press. Printer’s ink is definitely in the blood. All told, I have spent 50 years in newspapers, starting as a Saturday night copyboy with The Sunday Press in 1974. I wrote my first articles at around 15 years of age for the then national Irish language newspaper Inniu.

    A MOTORIST who was driving at 154km/h on the motorway outside Nenagh has been fined for careless driving by Judge Elizabeth MacGrath at Nenagh District Court. The speed limit was 120km/h, the court heard. Patrick McCarthy of 29 Sharwood Estate, Newcastle West, county Limerick, had originally been charged with dangerous driving, but this was reduced to careless driving by Judge MacGrath after the court heard that the conditions on the day had been dry and the lighting good.

    TWO Tipperary Town brothers charged with assault causing harm have been refused bail by Judge Adrian Harris at Nenagh District Court. Michael O'Dwyer, 31, and his brother Joey, 27,  both of 52 James Connolly Park, Tipperary Town, were before the court this Thursday charged with assault on John O'Connor at Greenane Drive, Tipperary Town, on February 13, 2024. They are both also charged with production of an article under Section 11 of the Firearms Act on the same date.

    Éabha Byrnes, a student at St Anne's Secondary School in Tipperary Town, was chosen last May, from hundreds of Irish Junk Kouture designers to represent Ireland in the World finals of Junk Kouture in Monaco. Éabha’s colourful creation, Drowning Duchess, was created using swimming floats. Junk Kouture is a competition that promotes recycling and sustainability, while at the same time promoting creativity and design.
