Uisce Éireann wishes to advise customers in Clonakilty that essential works will be taking place from next week in the town. Planned flushing will take place from Tuesday, 22nd April to Friday, 2nd May in areas of Clonakilty. As works progress through the area, signage will be put in place. Customers are also advised to check the Uisce Éireann website. Customers may also experience short-term discolouration to their supply throughout the duration of the works.

Peeking behind Caspar, Balthasar, and Melchior in Harry Clarke’s nativity window in St Barrahane’s in Castletownshend is the violet head of a Friesian cow; the animals were first introduced to Ireland through the village by Edith Somerville, so the story goes. The windows, as any of Clarke’s infamous work, are a natural draw in the church but are far from the only attraction in the building, which is 199 years old this year.

PLANS have been published by Cork County Council for eight two-bedroom social houses at Model Village in Dripsey, with eight car parking spaces in total, and another four off-street parking spaces for visitors. The development will occupy a site of about 0.5 hectares, and the planning report notes that there is potential for further development to the west of the site in the future.

A REPORT published by the MCBI (Marine Casualty Investigation Board) has found that the fatal accident suffered by 28-year-old Kinsale fisherman Des Hurley, aboard a vessel in December 2023, was a case of a ‘one-in-a-million death’. Mr Hurley was on board the Breizh Arvor Il, a prawn fishing vessel, on December 14th 2023, about 100 miles off the coast of the Blasket Islands in Kerry, when he went below deck to fetch a jumper.
