Bantry Bay Port Company marked the beginning of a busy cruise season today, Friday May 9th, with the arrival of the first of 14 cruise liners scheduled for this season. Propelled with two Rolls-Royce engines, the 126-metre World Explorer was launched in 2019. Operated by Quark Expeditions, the vessel holds 172 passengers and was designed for polar cruises, especially Antarctica, but it will be anchored on Bantry Inner for the duration of its stay.

A second public consultation is now open on the route options for the Bandon sections of the West Cork Greenway. This second consultation of three, comes about six months after the publication of the first report on the scheme, which aims to link Crossbarry with Clonakilty via Bandon town. There is also the potential for route options that would link to Timoleague, Inchydoney, and Enniskeane. The public consultation is open for six weeks, and closes on June 2nd 2025.

JUST 67% of farmers over the age of 65 surveyed by Carbery have a successor in place, according to figures published this week. The extensive survey was published as part of the Carbery Annual Report for 2024, which collated answers from 80% of Carbery’s farmer shareholders. Results also showed that 10% of Carbery’s suppliers have plans to retire in the next three years, with 12% of those surveyed under 35, and another 12% over 65.

Baltimore RNLI were requested by the Irish Coast Guard to search for an overdue fishing vessel this afternoon, Friday 25th April, in Crookhaven. The volunteer lifeboat crew launched their all-weather lifeboat at 12.55pm, following a request from the Irish Coast Guard who had received reports of an overdue fishing vessel which couldn’t be reached.
