Legendary Nenagh publican, Una Powell, has passed away this week. Una passed away peacefully on Wednesday 28 May, after a short illness in the loving care of the esteemed staff of St Conlon's Home in Nenagh. Predeceased by her parents Josephine and Robert, her sister Kathleen (Flannery), and her brother Thomas, she will be deeply regretted by her loving brothers Robert and Andrew. Sisters-in-law Marion and Patricia, and brother-in-law Frank. Nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

Following the official opening of the Brian Boru Bridge, linking Killaloe and Ballina, locals have spoken out to express their disappointment in being excluded from the ceremony. For the duration of the event, locals were blocked from entering the bridge by barricades and gardaí at either side. Many felt that the ceremony unfortunately failed to recognise those who will use the bridge the most.
