The investigation into a Southern Tier man possessing child pornography led to his arrest and the arrest of another man on a separate charge involving an animal. Last Friday, State Police executed a search warrant at the Broome County residence of Christopher Banks in Nineveh, just outside of Binghamton, and found the 37-year-old to be in possession of images consistent with child sexual exploitation.

Governor Kathy Hochul on Friday celebrated April 11 as the inaugural New York Craft Beer Day in New York State. New York is the second largest craft beer market in the U.S. and has more than 500 independent craft breweries that support 22,000 jobs and generate a $4.8 billion economic impact across the state. “Today, we raise a glass to more than 500 craft breweries across New York — small businesses that pour $4.8 billion into our economy and flavor into our communities,” Governor Hochul said.

A Schuyler County resident will spend time in prison for her felony drug conviction. Back in February, April Ball was found guilty of criminal possession of a controlled substance following a four-day trial in Schuyler County Court. On Thursday, Ball was sentenced by Judge Matthew Hayden to eight years in state prison and five years post-release supervision.

Starting Monday, a portion of State Route 54A in Yates County will be closed between County Routes 74 and 32 in Branchport. This will allow for the installation of a new retaining wall. Traffic will be detoured and that section of the roadway is expected to be open by May 2nd. Further south on 54A in Steuben County, between Water Street and County Route 76 in Urbana, the roadway will be reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic to allow for the replacement of a retaining wall.

New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik was appointed by Speaker Mike Johnson as Chairwoman of House Republican Leadership for the 119th Congress. In addition, she was reappointed to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence where she will maintain her seniority. She also resumes her role as a senior Member of the Armed Services Committee and Education and the Workforce Committee.
