CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It's been a while since the Coastal Bend has received over an inch of rain in a day - January 9 was the last time that happened. Before that, you have to go back to September 24, 2024. We are in dire need of rain and the forecast is looking promising for beneficial rain. The basic premise for the rain chances trending up is that waves of upper level energy moving in from the west will be interacting with very humid air in place, leading to rain production.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Sea fog is a type of fog that develops over the ocean (in our case, the Gulf) and then moves in over land. It takes just the right weather variables to get it to form and move in, as it often does in the Coastal Bend. For us, the recipe is a cooler gulf than the air temperatures above it; moisture; and relatively light, onshore flow. For example: Let's say the sea-surface temperature in the gulf is in the middle 50s, and the air temperature is near 60 degrees.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The NHC is currently monitoring Tropical Depression Nadine and Hurricane Oscar - both in the Caribbean, but neither a threat to Texas. Nadine made landfall late Saturday morning as a 60 mph tropical storm. It is now a tropical depression moving across Central America. That being said, that likely won't be the end of Nadine.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Climate Prediction Center, a branch of NOAA, released their Winter Outlook for December, January, and February today - October 17.  They have much of the Southern US expecting a warmer and drier than average Winter season. Let's unpack... The maps the CPC released today have a strong correlation with what one would expect to see during a La Niña winter. La Niña tends to deliver drier and warmer winters, on average, to the southern US.

Skies will begin to cloud up and rain chances increase Monday along the coast ahead of PTC Six. PTC Six is currently taking up residence in the Bay of Campeche. It's winds are tropical storm-strength, but it's not organized enough to be called a tropical storm. That's expected to happen in the next day or so. The next name on the list is Francine. The latest forecast cone has shifted a bit more to the east which will take the heaviest rain more east with it.
