SandFest adapts with pond water solution to save sculptures

PORT ARANSAS, Texas — The 28th annual SandFest returns to Port Aransas this weekend but this time with a twist. Due to water restrictions the organizers are using an alternative water source to keep the event on track. Instead of tapping into the city's water supply, SandFest President Scot Deason said they're turning to pond water from a private well to keep those sculptures standing tall. Cody Perez, a former Moody baseball player and Bishop coach, died in a car accident in August 2023.
