A Johns Island man apprehended in 2022 by the Charleston County Sheriff's SWAT team on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge. Tyrone Robinson, 41, pleaded guilty on April 10 to first degree assault and battery and two counts of unlawfully placing a child at risk. He will serve seven years in prison, minus 1,020 days of time served credit. Police raided Robinson's home after deputies tried to make contact with him for about 45 minutes on June 27, 2022.

REEVESVILLE — A man is facing murder charges after another was found shot dead in western Dorchester County. Camren Deroy Ravenell, 31, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in the April 9 killing of Jeremy G. Britt, 31, according to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office. Ravenell was arrested the same day as the shooting. The April 9 shooting occurred on the 4000 block of Wire Road in Reevesville.

COLUMBIA - Mikal Mahdi took about three minutes to die April 11 after three bullets from rifles of state's executioners tore through his chest. The Virginia man convicted of murdering a police officer in South Carolina let out a yell as he was struck, media witnesses said after his execution. Nine people watched Mahdi, dressed in black and with a hood over his head, as he groaned and moaned twice more before he took his final breath, media witnesses said.

COLUMBIA — Mikal Mahdi is scheduled to be executed April 11 by firing squad, becoming the second person in the state's history to die by such a method. Mahdi, 42, pleaded guilty in 2006 to the July 18, 2004, murder of Capt. James Myers of the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety. Mahdi killed Myers, 56, during a weeklong crime spree that stretched from Virginia to Florida. During that time, he also killed gas station clerk Christopher Boggs, 29, in North Carolina.
