    The number of people owning second homes in Inverness has significantly grown in the last three years, new official figures reveal. An FOI submitted by the Press and Journal shows there are currently more than 400 second homes in Inverness and surrounding areas. This is over 100 more second homes than in 2022, an increase of 44.6%. The postcode area with the largest number of second homes is IV2 6, which covers the Culduthel area and south of Inverness.

Plans have also been submitted to convert the upper floors of a city centre street building into another short-term let have also been validated.

    Thousands of passengers travelling on the largest cruise ship of the season packed Inverness today. MSC Preziosa, a £450 million luxury cruiser, tied up in the Port of Cromarty Firth carrying 4,300 passengers – more than the entire population of Invergordon. After the giant ship docked at around 6am, passengers flocked into dozens of tourist buses to see the Highlands for themselves. They first visited Loch Ness before being dropped just outside St Andrews Cathedral.

    Dozens of Inverness play parks will receive more than £500,000 in funding for renovation and improvement works. Plans to allocate a large percentage of the Scottish Government Play Park Funding were approved by the Highland Council today. In 2021, the council was given £2,918,000 in capital grants for play area renewal. The total allocation for the Inverness Area is £838,162, split equally between the seven Wards over five years.
