The document serves as the building blocks for all planning decisions on the island, from environmental preservation to rezonings, density and commercial placements, and much more. Council discussion on local projects frequently reference one or more OCP points as rationale for or against a decision.

Mayors of two coastal communities are hoping a letter to BC Ferries will spark some positive change regarding local ferry service. Bowen Island mayor Andrew Leonard and Gibsons mayor Silas White from the Sunshine Coast sent the letter to B.C. premier David Eby last Friday. In it they outline both historical and recent challenges with the routes to Bowen Island and Langdale which originate at the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal.

A long-pursued island undertaking was finally and fully realized during opening celebrations at the Bowen Island Community Centre. A ribbon cutting and cedar brushing ceremony took place at the facility on Tuesday to recognize the accomplishment and welcome the community inside the new building. While its doors had technically opened last week, the event served as many peopleβs first time exploring the different amenities the centre has to offer.

One Bowen resident is hoping to drag people to the polls this federal election. Not physically of course, but rather by encouraging folks in the 2SLGBTQ+ community to get out and vote. Drag the Vote is a non-partisan campaign spurred by more than 100 drag performers across Canada who are looking to make an impact in this monthβs election. The efforts are backed by Momentum Canada, a national queer advocacy society.

Catching Stars owner Emilie Kaplun is embarking on a new chapter as sole Director of the art gallery. While the solo position is new territory, the Snug Cove gallery is a place Kaplun has called home since founding it, along with Pauulet Hohn and Marie Neys, in 2018. The trio had previously worked at Arts Pacific Gallery in Artisan Square and knew they worked well together.
