Catching Stars owner Emilie Kaplun is embarking on a new chapter as sole Director of the art gallery. While the solo position is new territory, the Snug Cove gallery is a place Kaplun has called home since founding it, along with Pauulet Hohn and Marie Neys, in 2018. The trio had previously worked at Arts Pacific Gallery in Artisan Square and knew they worked well together.

This yearβs municipal budget process is now in its closing stages following some final changes to the document. Chief financial officer Kristen Watson presented a final draft of the budget to council last week which included changes to reduce this yearβs property tax increase to 7.7 per cent, a number which had originally started at 9.5 per cent.

An upcoming ferry schedule for the island has raised questions both about sailing timings and how it was implemented. Coun. Judith Gedye spoke to a letter from the public during the March 24 meeting which raised concerns about the new BC Ferries schedule beginning on May 15. The most notable attention was drawn to the altering of sailings during the busy afternoon stretch. Current mid afternoon to early evening runs from Horseshoe Bay include the 2:20, 3:30, 4:35 and 5:45 pm.

Following three days of cancelled sailings due to a damaged dock, a return to service for the Queen of Capilano appears imminent. "Our operations team is on track to complete repairs this evening, and we are optimistic that ferry service will resume by tomorrow morning," said BC Ferries senior communications advisor Shiryn Sayani in an email on Thursday afternoon.
