    Cheshire East Council has been branded ‘dystopian’ after fencing off a popular public green space that was also used by homeless people. The grassed area of land behind Macclesfield Town Hall had metal barriers put round it in autumn last year and they remain to this day. It contains benches which were often used by town centre workers to eat lunch, enjoy a hot drink or take in the views over Macc towards the Peak District.

    A pensioner who was given a £70 parking charge while attending a hospital appointment has won a court battle to get it overturned. Ray Field, 86, from Macclesfield, represented himself at Stockport County Court against Parkingeye, who issued the charge, and came out on top. Speaking after the hearing, he encouraged more people to stand up for themselves. Ray says he was given the charge when he visited Macclesfield Hospital in February last year.

    A farmer has spoken out about the effect – both financial and emotional – of losing sheep to dog attacks. Nigel Potts, who runs a sheep business in the Macclesfield countryside, says he has lost more than 15 of the animals in this way. Both Cheshire Police and the National Farmers Union (NFU) have said attacks are on the rise and have appealed for owners to keep dogs under control, particularly as lambing season is getting underway.

    The owner of a music bar with a popular Ian Curtis mural has launched a planning appeal saying the venue’s future is under threat. Proper Sound, on Chestergate, Macclesfield, is part store and part café-bar but owner Lucie Wright wants to concentrate on the hospitality part of the business. Although Cheshire East Council licensing committee approved the necessary change of opening hours, its planning committee refused the required change of use application.

    A charity has been given a generous donation that should prove a real pick me up - a new forklift truck. The £8,000 vehicle has been handed over to the Halo Centre, in Binley, from which Feed The Hungry UK and Coventry Foodbank operate. It was donated by Jungheinrich as part of the logistics company's ongoing support.
