Information is still coming out about the fatal bus crash involving a Lexington 2 school bus in Chester County on Thursday. One person, 13-year-old student Jose Maria Gonzales Linares, was killed and 21 people were transported to hospitals after a tire blew out on the 2021 Blue Bird school bus carrying students from Pine Ridge Middle School home from a field trip to the Charlotte area. The bus overturned on Interstate 77 and closed traffic in both directions for a time Thursday afternoon.

The University of South Carolina will require all employees to return to campus this summer, ending remote work for more than 700 staffers who only worked virtually or had a hybrid schedule. With an “emphasis on a vibrant and healthy campus culture that supports our students and our customers,” the university will require employees to report to work in-person beginning July 1, 2025, according to an email sent to staff and obtained by The State.

Even at 21, Nathaniel Baker had already figured out so much about life. He knew that acts of kindness fill your soul. He learned you can’t control the things around you, but you can control your attitude. He had even discovered that you can give your whole heart to someone, and still have room to love everyone else in your life. Those memories of Baker were shared by his father, Dan Baker, at a memorial service for “Nate” on Saturday on the University of South Carolina’s campus.

A Lower Richland High School cheerleader was assaulted and “tased” during a fight at the school last year and later expelled even though she was the victim, according to a lawsuit. Now she’s suing Richland School District 1 and Sheriff Leon Lott. She is the second Lower Richland cheerleader to claim she was the victim of a fight at the school in January 2024.
