ATHENS, Ga. — The Western Judicial Circuit will have a new district attorney in the new year. Voters in Athens-Clarke and Oconee counties voted to oust Deborah Gonzalez and elect Kalki Yalamanchili. Embattled incumbent Gonzalez faced a decided loss on Election Night, losing the Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney race and receiving less than half the vote. Gonzalez, who assumed office in 2021, was the first Latina to be elected district attorney in the state.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Hillsborough County deputies are in East Tampa Friday working to rescue people trapped in Alafia River flood waters. The sheriff's office posted a video of more-than-waist-deep flood waters Friday morning. The National Weather Service designated that the river was experiencing "major" flooding following Hurricane Milton. According to the social media post, deputies assisted neighbors with evacuations by Rose Street.
