Next month marks the third anniversary of a brutal stranger attack in Vancouver. A man, hiding a machete inside an umbrella, struck two people who were loading luggage into a waiting cab. A 49-year-old man was hit on the shoulder, and a 38-year-old woman was struck on the back of the neck. Her name is Casey Janulis, and since then, she's been suffering in silence. Last week, her attacker, Kenneth Solowan, was sentenced to six years in prison.

Vancouver’s mayor says he’s frustrated the province has yet to make legal changes that would permit the abolition of the city’s elected park board. Ken Sim asked the provincial government to amend the Vancouver Charter in December 2023, a critical step in his plan to dissolve the Vancouver Park Board. The following spring, Premier David Eby signalled the government was “committed” to making the changes after the 2024 provincial election, should he be re-elected.

Singh spent his third consecutive day campaigning in the province, and second straight day on Vancouver Island where one political scientist says the fate of his party may play out. We hear so much about the perpetrators of random violence, and seldom from their victims. Casey Janulis was slashed on the back of the neck by a stranger with a machete nearly 3 years ago. Her attacker now sentenced, she can finally speak. @GlobalBC https://t.co/gcWyZCvjHW
