Despite the success of recruiting foreign-trained physicians in Niagara, a program meant to fast track their immigration process may be hampering efforts to keep them here once they arrive. Niagara Transit’s regional bus routes are undergoing changes, including reduced stops at shopping centres in St. Catharines and Welland during the day. But there are plenty of local routes available that passengers can instead use to reach their destinations, said Niagara Transit spokesperson Leah Tracey. She said the changes to regional bus routes will come into effect July 2. The changes are for weekdays, with weekend routes unchanged.

Operating rooms at the Welland hospital could remain closed until August, thanks to a significant water leak at the hospital two weeks ago. The operating rooms were closed May 27, damaged by water leaking from burst pipes that also impacted other areas of the hospital including the medical device reprocessing rooms, where equipment is sterilized for future use.
