St. Catharines Standard

St. Catharines Standard

The St. Catharines Standard made its debut on April 21, 1891. It was established by William Bartlett Burgoyne and remained under the ownership of the Burgoyne family for several generations until it was sold to the Southam newspaper group in 1996. Throughout its extensive history, The Standard has emerged as a key media outlet in the Niagara Region and beyond. In 1998, Southam's newspapers came under the ownership of Conrad Black, and The Standard was subsequently sold to Sun Media, which is owned by Quebecor. Sun Media was later acquired by Postmedia. In 2017, the newspaper changed hands for the fourth time when it was purchased by Torstar Corporation, which also publishes several other significant newspapers, including the Toronto Star, The Hamilton Spectator, the Waterloo Region Record, The Welland Tribune, The Niagara Falls Review, The Peterborough Standard, along with various Metroland community newspapers and additional media assets.

About three years ago, Radick got to work behind 32 Towering Heights Blvd. She cleaned up and dug out a small garden for herself.
