    PORTLAND, Ore. — After nearly a decade of planning, Multnomah County has launched a Veterans Treatment Court program designed to better serve veterans in the criminal justice system. The District Attorney's office announced the program's start on Thursday, joining neighboring Washington County in offering specialized court services for veterans.     PORTLAND, Ore. — Multnomah County commissioners are getting a better idea of just how much it costs to maintain shelter beds across the city. Commissioner Shannon Singleton asked staff to look over the data and write up an assessment. On the low end, the county spends $22,000 a year to operate just one shelter bed. On the high end, that number is closer to $52,000 a year. The assessment also looks at how the cost of shelter connects to the outcomes.

    VANCOUVER, Wash. — The trial of a former youth counselor in Clark County accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor patient came to an abrupt end Wednesday when the judge granted a motion from the defense to dismiss the case. Alicia Stowe, 36, worked at a now-shuttered Daybreak South Services residential treatment facility in Brush Prairie. She was charged in January 2023 with one count of first-degree sexual misconduct involving a minor.

    PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield and Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes hosted another town hall Thursday evening, this time in Portland, to hear concerns and take questions from Oregonians about ongoing uncertainties on the federal level. They said Democratic attorneys general will continue to fight what they call unconstitutional and illegal actions by the Trump administration, filing more than a dozen lawsuits over the last three months.
