Malindi environmental conservation stakeholders have embarked on a program to sensitize waste collectors within the resort town to make cash from trash and maintain cleanliness. The stakeholders led by Progress Welfare Association of Malindi (PWAM) who have been in the forefront in organising monthly clean ups and creating awareness amongst community members on the importance of living in a clean environment said there were a lot of opportunities in the wastes being dumped.

Leaders from Kilifi County are now calling for the recognition of Waata community by granting them a tribe code. Speaking during the burial of Waata community elder, 98 year old Emmanuel Badiva Guyo Kiribai at Kasikini village in Marafa ward, Magarini Sub County in Kilifi County, the leaders led by Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo also urged the government to resolve a land dispute pitting the community and the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC).

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has stepped up efforts to eradicate Indian crows at the beaches of Watamu in Kilifi County by sensitizing fishermen and fish mongers on cleanliness. Ramadhan Mwatsefu, the Senior Warden at Watamu Marine park said that the crows were currently the biggest threat to other bird species and that their elimination will save the birds from extinction.

Speaking during a five-day training workshop for 30 women groups organized by RESEA Organization, chairlady of the Malindi Ladies in Fisheries Group Manthura Yusuf said that the tides are changing.

The National Government has launched an ambitious program of recruiting over 4000 youth in the Coastal region to get different types of jobs in Dubai as part of opening up employment opportunities. Hundreds of youths, both ladies and gentlemen braved the rains to try their luck in Malindi town where the exercise kicked off on Monday and officially launched by Labour and Social protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua.
