BRICK – A Toms River man has been arrested for assaulting a victim and fleeing the scene, which also led to an officer sustaining injuries, police said. Joseph Yannon, 65, was been charged with aggravated assault, eluding law enforcement, and multiple motor vehicle violations in connection to a crash that occurred on May 29. Officers responded to Greenwood Loop Road for a reported assault and found a victim with visible injuries.

JACKSON – A Laurence Harbor resident has been sentenced to prison for stabbing a man during a fight that broke out while he was going door-to-door soliciting business, authorities said. Michael Tsamas, 35, was sentenced to 20 years New Jersey State Prison (NJSP) in connection with the death of Joseph Delgardio, 44, of Jackson.

BRICK – A New York man has admitted to robbing a Brick Township resident outside of their home, authorities said. Vongvichit Vatthanavong, 50, of Brooklyn, New York, pled guilty to Robbery in connection with an incident that occurred in Brick on January 5, 2023. At the time of his sentencing on July 18, 2025, the State will be seeking a term of twelve and one-half years New Jersey State Prison subject to the terms of the No Early Release Act.

LAKEWOOD – An out-of-state bus driver was arrested and charged for multiple driving violations while transporting children and adults to a private school, police said. Xiao Lei Lei Tian, 41, of Philadelphia, PA, was arrested and charged with 47 counts of child endangerment and multiple motor vehicle violations following a reckless driving incident involving a commercial bus on the Garden State Parkway.
School Board Adopts Budget With Tax Increase

BRICK – The Brick Township Board of Education has adopted a $171 million budget for the 2025-26 school year with an increase in the property tax levy. According to the district, the total budget is $171,207,418 which includes $134,767,772 to be raised by property taxes – a 3.14% tax levy. This is an increase of $4,161,475 from the preliminary budget that was introduced in March.

GBS is a rare neurological disorder where the body’s immune system attacks the nerves.

LAKEWOOD – A Lakewood man has been indicted for homicide for traveling almost double the speed limit, which resulted in a fatal crash, officials said. Aryeh Bakst, 20, was indicted by a Grand Jury on the charge of Vehicular Homicide in connection with a crash that occurred on March 3, 2024 in Lakewood. The crash occurred around 9 a.m. in the area of West County Line Road and Laurelwood Avenue.
