    TOMS RIVER – A 59-year-old man was arrested and charged with starting a fire at an apartment complex in Toms River Tuesday, authorities said.   Around 11 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to Winteringham Village located on Route 166 for a structure fire. When they arrived on scene, they found the fire had already been extinguished.

    WHITING – Three staff members of a local rehabilitation and nursing center received criminal charges after pepper spraying a patient who they claimed was aggressive, police said.   The incident occurred at Whiting Gardens, located at 3000 Hilltop Road, on March 19 at around 8:52 p.m.  Licensed Practical Nurse Lisa Erikson told police that an 87-year-old patient, who suffers from dementia, depression, and anxiety, had become agitated and was damaging property.

    BRICK – After years of lawsuits, design changes and other delays, construction has begun on a long-awaited sports complex on what is commonly referred to as “the former Foodtown site,” on Route 70 behind Aldi.   “I know there have been some questions on why it’s taking so long,” said Mayor Lisa Crate.
