    Boulder County Parks and Open Space is hosting Barnyard Critter Day event from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 22 at the Agricultural Heritage Center, 8348 Highway 66, Longmont. Attendees will learn about the roles that chickens, pigs, horses and other animals play on a working farm. Along with the regular lineup of chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, mini mules, cows and horses, the event will feature demonstrations of sheep herding, sheep shearing, wool washing and spinning.

    The National Science Foundation has submitted a budget request that, if approved by Congress, would cut the budget for the National Center for Atmospheric Research by 40% and significantly impact the lab in Boulder. “If Congress were to approve the request as is, a 40% reduction would likely mean large-scale cuts to programs and labs here in Boulder,” said David Hosansky, the media relations manager for NCAR.
