This year, DCR is offering 68 free safe, educational, and fun recreational opportunities at 13 state parks and watersheds. BOSTON, Mass. (WWLP)– Many Massachusetts residents saw a steep increase in energy costs this winter, with some struggling to pay those bills. Eligible Massachusetts residents still have time to apply for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP). Households do not need to be on public assistance or have unpaid bills to qualify. It is open to both renters and homeowners. The program sends a one-time payment directly to the heating provider.

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Western Massachusetts is one of several regions in the state that are seeing drought relief. According to the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) reports that the Connecticut River Valley, Central, Southeast and Western regions of the state have been downgraded to a Level 1 – Mild Drought status. This is the result of recent significant precipitation, which has helped improve streamflow and raise groundwater levels in several regions.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– A series of portraits depicting missing and murdered Indigenous persons is currently on display at the Michele and Donald D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield. Portraits in RED: Missing & Murdered Indigenous Peoples Painting Project, is the work of artist and activist Nayana LaFond, a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario. The paintings show the faces covered with a red handprint, a symbol of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s movement (MMIW).
