A man has been stabbed in a busy town centre this afternoon as horrified shoppers looked on. South Yorkshire Police and paramedics raced to the scene outside Old Town Hall in Rotherham at 12.09pm today. There, they found a 51-year-old man who had been stabbed. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital where he remains undergoing treatment. He had been stabbed in the leg but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-altering.

A sexual predator who raped a teenage girl four decades ago has died in a Yorkshire prison, despite only having been jailed last year. John Barkess was found guilty of rape and six counts of indecent assault in April 2024 and sentenced for 15 years and six months. He sexually assaulted a teenage girl in the 1980s. She reported the crime at the time but the case was not progressed.

A man was chased and attacked at Bramall Lane following a Sheffield United match. South Yorkshire Police are investigating the assault, which left the victim with injuries. Today, they have released images of two men they urgently want to speak to and are appealing to the public to help identify them. The attack happened on February 24 following Sheffield United's home match against Leeds United. A statement said enquiries are ongoing and officers would like to speak with the two men.

A search has been launched to find a Sheffield woman and police have put out a statement asking for any information as they try and find her. Bethany, 21, was last seen in the Pitsmoor area of the city yesterday (Thursday) afternoon at 2.40pm. She is white, around 5ft 3ins tall with short, mousey brown hair. She was last seen wearing a yellow T-shirt and is believed to be barefoot.

John Sugden's crimes are mounting up. The latest Emmerdale episode showed the star character's cold and remorseless covering up of killing of Nate Robinson. In a series of flashbacks, the hour-long episode aired on Thursday April 10 showed John (played by Oliver Farnworth) trying to administer Nate (Jurell Carter) with medication when he found him at a barn fire. But when he returned with a second shot, John was shocked to discover Nate had died.
