Emergency services were called to reports of smoke coming from a building on Fleming Gardens East at around 8.45am on Thursday. Police remained at the flats with officers standing guard on Thursday afternoon. Officers from CID have also visited the block. There were no reports of any injuries.

One resident said they heard a “commotion” outside the flats on Wednesday night, but it is unclear whether this was connected to the fire.

    CCTV footage has captured the moment a smash-and-grab thief stole two tills from a Dundee takeaway. The thief, believed to be a man, broke into Black Rooster on Arbroath Road early on Wednesday. A member of staff at the peri-peri chicken outlet told The Courier the person responsible was spotted cycling in the adjacent Aldi car park before gaining entry to the takeaway.

    Four men have been charged after a street fight involving weapons in Dundee. A 24-year-old man was taken to hospital following the incident in St Mary’s at around 1.40pm on May 27. St Clement Place and St Edmund Place were sealed off by police in the aftermath of the incident. The men, aged 24, 36, 46 and 63, have been charged in connection with assault and threatening and abusive behaviour. They will be reported to prosecutors.

    A new Mediterranean restaurant has opened in the former Gulistan House in Broughty Ferry – but has had to change its name after a legal letter from an Edinburgh hotel firm. Iftikhar Ahmed has transformed the historic building on Queen Street into a new restaurant, which opened its doors for the first time on Friday. He had planned to open the venue under the name Le Monde, meaning “the world”, with his daughter Aaisha Naseer.
