The Executive Board sat for the first time this week since Reform UK’s Luke Campbell was elected as Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire earlier this month. The board itself had its first meeting in March. The meeting then was largely a procedural affair and saw the approval of the authority’s constitution and budget, as well as appointing individuals to various positions.

The new mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire has said he would always put the region before party politics. Asked during a meeting of the combined authority's executive board about his position on green energy, Reform UK's Luke Campbell said: "I represent the people of this region, and if that can create local jobs and help local businesses that is what I will do."Campbell also told the meeting that all types of energy – including nuclear and hydrogen power – should be considered.

The prime minister said deals with India, the US and EU would also offer people employed in manufacturing, who make up 9 per cent of the region’s workforce, greater stability. Labour York and North Yorkshire Mayor David Skaith said the deals had pushed through red tape that had seen opportunities wasted for the region. But Conservative opposition leader Kemi Badenoch said the Labour Government was dragging Britain back to closer ties with the EU after capitulating to US tariffs.
