CONTRACTORS working on the major resurfacing of a main road in Cornwall have had to change their plans following “six separate vehicle incursions into the work site”. Cormac are undertaking the resurfacing on the A391 distributor road on the east side of St Austell on behalf of Cornwall Council. Initially, the plan was to keep the Carclaze, Boscoppa, and Bethel roundabouts on the A391 open between 7am and 7pm during the first phase of the project.

MINERALS giant Imerys has announced a new investment of nearly £18-million at a mining pit in the Clay Country. The company will be upgrading its clay processing facilities at the massive Littlejohns works near Roche. A new “dry” mining plant, which will use less water and electricity, is due to constructed by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, an existing facility will be removed to allow access to additional china clay reserves, thus significantly extending the life of the operations at the pit.

THE mammoth task of removing the remains of a lock gate from the entrance to a heritage harbour in Cornwall has been successfully completed. Also in the newsPhotographer Paul Williams, who watched the operation unfold, said: “It was a triumph for the exhausted harbour crew and engineers at Charlestown harbour as the 41-ton lock gate, installed in 1971 and out of action for the past seven months following storm damage, was finally removed.
