The process of shipping thousands of T-shirts honoring Kansas City firefighter and paramedic Graham Hoffman has begun. Investigators say Hoffman was stabbed to death last month while trying to help a patient. E2 Embroidery & Screenprinting has been producing T-shirts and other items to raise money for Hoffman’s family. Those items began shipping this week. Kristen Gibbs, who drives a firetruck for the Kansas City Fire Department, spent her day off Wednesday volunteering to pack T-shirts.

Evicted residents of the Aspen Place Apartments in Gardner received free legal advice Tuesday from Kansas Legal Services. Individual consultations and a group session were held at the Hampton Inn in Gardner, a week after tenants were given 48 hours to vacate their homes. The city condemned the complex due to ongoing issues, including water and sewer problems, and a recent incident involving a firetruck becoming stuck on an access road.

Facing a 6 p.m. deadline Thursday to move out, residents of the Aspen Place Apartments in Gardner were packing up belongings and having them hauled to storage units or new homes. The city of Gardner condemned the property after a firetruck became stuck on an access road, giving residents 48 hours to leave. Kristen Hattesohl had recently returned to her apartment following a hospital stay. She then fell at home and broke her wrist.

Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach said Thursday his office is watching the condemnation of Aspen Place Apartments in Gardner to ensure the rights of displaced tenants are protected. Kobach said his office expects the property owner to follow through on its promise to refund rent and security deposits and warned that tenants should not be forced to sign additional agreements to receive those refunds.
