The Nazareth Regional High School basketball Kingsmen were not only kings on the court – they dominated the Catholic High School Athletic Association All-Star team, placing a senior and two juniors on the ‘AA’ All-Star squad. Halon Rawlins, a senior forward who averaged 22.3 points-per-game and was named the CHSAA ‘AA’ MVP joins teammates — and juniors – Justin Delgado and A.J. Moody. Delgado, a forward averaged 10.2 points-per-game, and was selected a CHSAA ‘AA’ All-League third-team performer.

Not one – but two. That’s right. Coach Ron Kelley led the Lady Kingsmen of Nazareth Regional High School to a Brooklyn and State Championship in basketball. “The showcased incredible teamwork and individual performances,” Athletic Director Michael Camacho told the Brooklyn Eagle. In the Brooklyn Championship game, senior Makylah Moore shined with 30 points while Sanai Yates added 19 points.

The Wizard just will not disappear. His recent feature in the Brooklyn Eagle prompted his St. Joseph’s University, Brooklyn basketball coach – Danny Lynch – to add a little spice. The Wizard – of course – is Bob Knapp – the St. Joseph’s Hall of Famer – Class of 2015 – who scored 2,004 points in three years with the Bears. He did it in 57 games for a 35.2 points-per-game average from 1985-88.

Rob Knapp. Photo courtesy of Rob Knapp He was known as “The Wizard.”He earned the title by virtue of his style of play. Gus Williams was the 1971 Player of the Year at New York’s Mount Vernon High School. He played college basketball at the University of Southern California, where he led the then Pac-8 in scoring and was named an All-American in 1975.

It’s almost here. We’re talking about the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day. This year, it’s against the San Francisco Giants, with that dreaded 4:10 p.m. first pitch. Whatever happened to baseball’s first professional team playing the very first game? That is forgotten. Perhaps lost forever – like my last set of car keys. More: Jeimer Candelario? Gavin Lux? Santiago Espinal? Who's on third for Cincinnati Reds? What is not lost is what happened on Opening Day 2022. Yikes, has it been three years already?
